Fundraising

Fundraising is about you as an individual, employee or employer bringing some fun and a challenge whilst raising funds for The Sailors' Children's Society.

Individuals
What can it do for you?
Motivate and inspire you
A great way of getting people together
Encourage active involvement in the community
Present new challenges leading to new skills

Companies
Whether it’s part of a Charity of the Year, or just a one-off fundraiser, there are
lots of ways to fundraise at work.  Remember it is supposed to be fun so
choose something you and your employees will like doing.

We are happy to come and talk to groups of staff, no matter how large or small to brainstorm ideas, or maybe you already know what you would like to do and just want to know how to get started.

If you want to organise an event please contact the Fundraising Department on 01482 342331 or e-mail Wendy Fish.

We also regularly update our page on Facebook , please click on the link to follow Sailors' Children's Society on
Facebook and also become a fan.

HOW YOU HAVE HELPED

Captain and Mrs Taylor very kindly organised a stall at a Car Boot and Table Top sale at Mariners Park and raised a fantastic £170 for the Society in October 2012.

In June 2011 as part of the 190th celebrations and Seafarers Awareness week St.Nicholas Primary School on the Newland Estate organised a 'Sailors Day' and raised £88 for the Society. All the children and staff were dressed as sailors and organised a fun packed day teaching the children all about the sea. The day was topped off with a huge birthday cake made into a ship.

Here is an example of a Fundraising Event which took place on the RV James Cook.   The Master, Roger Chamberlain and his crew raised a very generous sum of £300 when they crossed the equator on the 8th November 2009.  They celebrated with a ceremony and a fundraising exercise on behalf of the Society.   This fundraising involved the cutting of hair, dressing up and a good time generally.  A big thank you to all those involved.  These funds will be used towards the January 2010 Clothing Grant for our Seafarer's children.   We have also recently received another kind donation of £60 - thank you once again!
